The 1/2/3 field was very fast today and it was very windy so I found it difficult to hide behind people in the cross wind.
It was a 70 mile road race on a 10 mile course (7 laps). There was a short climb and the lots of rolling terrain, some of which was more open to the wind obviously than other parts. I found the hill to be a piece of cake compared to the flat sections in the wind. It was a very fast pace and lots of top riders got dropped prior to the finish.
I made it through 2 laps before losing sight of the leaders... I did an extra couple laps and then helped supply water to our team that was still with the leaders. The high point of my day was lobbing a water bottle to Chris Hayes, who was in the middle of the peloton at the feed zone and he caught it masterfully. He even did a little victory salute like a football player making a touchdown...
Live for the journey, not the destination.
