The Reston Town Center Criterium is one of the premier cycling events on the East Coast. Joe Jefferson did a great job MCing the event and the event went off without a hitch thanks to Evolution Cycling, who promotes the race.
No real breaks happened in the 3/4. My legs were cooked from yesterday and although I finished the race with the pack, I was not a contender for the podium today. I narrowly avoided a big crash with 1 1/2 laps to go, which took out 3 of my riding buds that I know of including Andy, John Nusbaum, Ryan Simpson as well as Kyle. The gap to the leaders was a bridge too far and Mike May and I soft pedaled to the finish. To me, there seem to be some very strong 3s in the field that put a whoopin on me this weekend. I probably didn't do myself any favors by not riding at all this week and falling all over the place on several mountain bike rides, but I've been having a blast on that thing.
I knew that the 1/2/3 at Reston would be an extreme challenge for me on a good day and nearly impossible after punishing my legs with 2 other hard races on the same weekend - so I signed up, figuring at the very least my $20 would go to support this event in the future. As I expected, the force required to push the pedals up the incline on this 1k loop at the pace of the 1/2/3s was too much for me to handle for an extended period of time and I dropped out pretty early. Lots of good riders eventually fell off the pace in this race. Jared said that this was the hardest 1/2/3 in the MABRA this year. He did well, finishing close to or in the money. Hayes also did well by finishing with the pack in the 1/2/3 after racing early in the day.
Sean Domitrovits (a 16 year old junior) got a ride back home with Evelyn from Artemis from Mike Fraysse's camp in NY and was keyed up with an extra burst of confidence and was highly motivated to win the cat 4 race. 3 laps into the race, Sean attacked and established a 4 man break that stayed away and Sean ended up 3rd in the race. A great finish for Sean just off a tough week in NY. I'm sure we'll see more of Sean. He's trying to find a way to get to Fitchburg next weekend.

Didn't you love how we all laid there for a while. It was like an island of sunbathers. You could have joined us. Yeah I think it was john who rolled his tire. That stuff happens. But it was compounded by the guys going 3 wide in that corner.
You had a hard week of riding. I would not beat yourself up. Heck you beat me today!!!
I was laying there cuz my leg was in violent spasms. Then Lance thought it might be a good idea to squeeze it.
Whoa, lance copped a squeeze.... that'll teach you to lay in the street with him.
